In conversation ...
It can be valuable to share your story, for example if you are writing your life story with others, as part of a training course or with your partner. In addition, for a coach or a therapist, it can also give a lot of insight and can help you recognize patterns and themes.
If there are topics, which you absolutely do not want to share, you can write them down in a journal for yourself and keep it in a “safe” place.
Title of a Book
The book titled “We never talked about that,” is about the experiences of soldiers at Grebbeberg during the fighting with the German army in 1940, when the Germans invaded the Netherlands. My grandfather himself never talked about it. What I and the rest of the family know comes from my grandmother, his wife. Especially my mother is very sorry that her father never wanted to talk about it again. Apparently this was quite normal in those days. There was a culture of silence.
Sharing = Healing
Your life story can be read by others and vice versa. How beautiful and healing it would be to have an in-depth conversation about this together.
One of the purposes of writing, reading and discussing your life story is to discover patterns. These can also be patterns that have been within a family for generations.
